Procollagen I (PCI) is a trimer composed of two identical alpha1 (I) polypeptide chains and one α2 (I) polypeptide chain. During the extracellular transformation of procollagen into collagen, procollagen propeptides, i.e., procollagen type I carboxyl terminal propeptide (PICP) and procollagen type I amino terminal propeptide (PINP), are released into the circulation. It is a precursor synthesized by osteoblasts and secreted into the extracellular space, where it undergoes a series of post-translational modifications, including propeptides cleaved by specific proteases. The propeptides are released into the circulation, and the newly formed collagen molecules assemble into a fibrous shape.| Typical data
